Valerian Root Dosage
The herb is available in a number of forms including an herbal tea, capsules and a valerian herbal tincture. When purchasing the herb it is better to choose the standardized product.

Valerian root dosage will vary from product to product and should be adjusted to suit the symptoms that you wish to treat but will generally be between 2 and 10 grams.

Some may find the taste and aroma a little earthy, but in ready-made preparations the herb is usually combined with others that will alter the taste. Recommended dosages should not be exceeded.

Valerian Root Side Effects
Valerian is generally considered to be one of the safest herbs, though some people may find that the herb needs to be taken over a period of several weeks before they see the benefits.

Some people have reported valerian side effects in the form of headaches and agitation. This could be caused if the user’s digestive system cannot break down the herb properly. Large doses of the herb can cause dizziness.

The herb should only be administered when the user is sure it will not adversely affect daily life, as it can cause drowsiness. Care should be taken if operating machinery or driving. Severe allergic reactions are very rare, but symptoms may include breathing problems or a skin rash.

Valerian is not suitable for pregnant or nursing women. Those taking prescription medications should consult with a medical practitioner before taking valerian to ensure that there will be no interaction.
